This is one of the coolest sites I’ve come across lately. The State Department has posts in 180 countries, and many of them are in the developing world without much access to resources. So being clever and inventive can really improve the quality of your daily life.

One of the most commonly hit areas is the kitchen. That’s why I love this blog: Hardship Homemaking. The welcome message sums up its purpose. “Hardship Homemaking is a back to basics blog for recipes, tricks, and tips to make life overseas at hardship posts easier.”

Even here in Belize, only two short hours from Miami by plane, it sometimes feels like we’re living in the Old West. And the general concensus is that if you can’t find it in the store, you just make it from scratch.
